Pre-Primary (Toddler), 18 Months Through 3 Years.
What the toddler years look like here, and how to ask about a place.

The Pre-Primary (Toddler) room
In the Pre-Primary room, children from eighteen months through three years are working on independence and language. The Practical Life area offers a full range of materials and activities for that work. A child practices with real objects and real tasks.
Through these activities, children build concentration and refine their motor skills. The work is quiet and repeated often. Self-esteem grows from doing something well and doing it without help.
Language develops alongside the hands-on work, which is central at this age. Teachers stay close and observe more than they direct. Children set their own pace and are free to discover.
What to expect
Primary (3 Years Through Kindergarten)
In our Primary classroom we foster the process of self-creation by providing an environment in which each child can develop independently at his or her own pace while still gaining those social, physical, intellectual and emotional skills needed to develop to his/her full potential. Our environment is designed to provide the child the opportunity to interact with as many aspects of the world as possible (at their own level).
Have Questions?
Send a message through the form and it reaches the school office. You will get a reply shortly after. If you would rather talk it through, call during office hours and ask about a visit.
What this looks like in practice
Toddlers in a Pre-Primary room spend their day with hands busy. They carry a tray, pour water, button a frame, and repeat the task until it belongs to them. Teachers give a short lesson and then step back, letting the child return to the work as long as interest holds. This is how concentration grows.
What you notice at home comes in small pieces. A child zips their own coat. They ask for what they want instead of pointing. They sit with a puzzle a little longer than before. Care that respects a toddler's own timing is what builds those habits, and they carry into the years after.
